Peruvian Tumi Spondylus Earrings
Unique, hand-made Peruvian Natural Tumi Spondylus Earrings. They are crafted in Cusco, made with silver, 950 hooks.
Spondylus limbatus, a red-purple or yellow-orange species, occurs from Baja California Sur to the Tumbes region in the north of Peru. They are often at least 30 meters below the surface of the Pacific Ocean. Spondylus shells were more valuable than gold or silver for many Pre-Columbian cultures and a symbol of abundance and land fertility.
Many people in Peru hang a Tumi on their walls for good luck. The Tumi is a ceremonial knife made of bronze, gold, silver or copper and usually made of one piece.
